Reflections

Letter of Introduction: Reflection

I have completed similar papers in the past, but as of recently I have not done a lot of writing about myself. My essay tells the story of how I came to learn I had a passion for learning how things worked which led me to the field of engineering. I spoke about my early years how I was driven to be a hard worker and more recent years in which I gained new abilities which I want to further develop. This piece reveals quite a few things about me as a learner as it goes to show how I gain new perspectives on topics where I don’t really need to, pulling me in to learn more about these systems. I believe the reader will notice that I constantly push myself further, to try and learn as much new material as I can, and how I don’t like to stay in a comfortable position, as that is when people in general stop putting in as much effort as they are capable of. If the readers haven’t noticed this, I would add points in the essay speaking about how physical training (workouts in the gym) also helped me learn more about myself, and how its a great way to clear your mind for a little so when you revisit something you were working on before you can approach it with a new set of thoughts. This would also lead them to thinking I’m more hardworking as I would have completed all this while still dedicating time to myself in the gym. Overall I believe the reader would find me as a hardworking individual and dedicated to constantly improving myself.

Memorandum: Reflection

This was my first time writing a memorandum, especially for an issue that was school related. I usually write papers based on readings or creating solutions, but never have I written a paper where I complain about an issue and pose a solution. This assignment reveals that I value long term solutions, rather than quick repairs that don’t last. I proposed a whole new set of escalators be installed, which can be expensive, but save money in the long run as they wouldn’t have to pay for constant labor, and have the escalators constantly be inoperative. I think my Memo was good compared to the student samples we went over in class, as my formatting correct. I also have the summary organized into three clear sections, where the reader can easily jump from any part and maintain good understanding of what I am saying. If I had the opportunity to do this piece over I would pose another solution to my issue, as I gave one solution that would work, but didn’t give other solutions that may of also worked, and even been more effective. I would also change it by adding information on how the school would benefit from implementing these changes.

Technical Description: Reflection

Before I started the project I knew a pretty good amount about fire extinguishers as there is a section in aviation maintenance called “Fire Protection” where I learned about different types of fire extinguishing methods, but not a lot specifically about handheld fire extinguishers. I approached researching the fire extinguisher by watching some YouTube videos, and read a few papers about its history and operation. I tried to focus on good sources such as some videos uploaded by firefighters, and videos of people actually taking them apart. A problem that I encountered was finding images that pertained to what was being discussed, many of them either included overlapping information, or not enough information. I solved this by taking the closest image to what I wanted and edited the information to match what I needed. The in class activities aided my figure organization, and properly citing images with the proper descriptions. They helped me properly label the figures in an organized manner that made it easy to read. I expected this assignment to be informational and display the information in an organized manner. I think I met this expectation as I payed extra attention to label the parts in the figures to reach a format that was easy to follow while remaining engaging and informative. If I had the chance to redo the piece over I would pay more attention to remaining concise, I think I have some trouble differentiating between concise sentences and sentences that are just short / incomplete.

Lab Report Analysis: Reflection

This was the first time I did a writing assignment like this, as I was never asked to actually compare two research papers. Usually the goal is to understand the paper and write about the contents of the paper, rather than the formatting of it. Before this assignment I knew to a degree that fast food and junk food were not healthy/good for you, but after reading these papers I now know their impacts. During this paper, an issue I encountered was trying not to compare the contents of the papers, as I found myself writing about junk food or fast food, when that was not the goal of the paper. I solved this paper by writing about their structures formatting. I did not have trouble finding the lab reports as the instructional class we had with the librarian was very helpful. My research process was exactly as the librarian taught us, I logged in from home, and used the EBSCO database too ind the lab reports. I did had some trouble identifying the rhetorical situations, but I broke down the text into subsections which made it easier. One of the lab reports was different than the textbook as it did not consist of a conclusion. If I had the chance to do this piece over again I would underline the reports instead of bold to improve clarity.

Proposal: Reflection

For this piece my group started by assigning everyone a job, and creating roles for each member ensuring that we had something to do and used our time efficiently. I worked similarly to my group mates as we were all doing our corresponding part, I specifically made sure to record all information gathered during the experiment. I think my group and I met the standards that I had going into the project. Everyone executed their role properly and there was no need to remind members to complete their role or do their part. I think I also met my group mates standards as I did what I was supposed to efficiently and the group workflow was nice. I would give us a 95 because no-one is perfect but I think we did pretty well. One goal I would like to set for myself for next time is to take notes / record the data electronically so that I would be able to store it, and everyone would be able to view or edit them.
